Marcel LENOIR - Jules Oury dit (1872-1931),... - Lot 279 - Vermot et Associés
Marcel LENOIR - Jules Oury dit (1872-1931), painter, engraver, draughtsman and illuminator: Autograph letter signed, 2 p large in-8, beautiful header illustrated with an original drawing by him, Paris (his studio at 7 Villa Brune), February 10, 1909, to Henry Lapauze (1867-1925, art critic and curator of the Palais des Beaux-Arts) - Lenoir and Lapauze were both from Montauban: He talks to him about his friend the sculptor Joseph Bernard ("Come on, my dear Lapauze, do your utmost to get my friend Bernard to sell his 'Conquered Hope' [a sculpture by Joseph Bernard, which will be acquired by the City of Boulogne-Billancourt], at least let me say thank you once to my dear Bernard") and about his personal exhibition ("I will try to bring this exhibition of paintings to a close. I don't care if you say good or bad things about it. I would have a clear conscience as far as sincerity, probity and honesty in Art are concerned", but "if I waited any longer, I would be afraid of arriving too late, just like the firemen of Montauban when they have to go and put out a fire".
