OISE. 1575. OFFÉMONT, Priory of SAINTE CROIX,... - Lot 26 - Vermot et Associés
OISE. 1575. OFFÉMONT, Priory of SAINTE CROIX, in St-Crépin-aux-Bois (60). Handing over of enumeration of the religious, prior and convent of the Celestines of SAINTE-CROIX under Offémont to High and Mighty Lord Louis d'ONGNIES, Count of Chaulnes (Louis d'ONGNIES, Count of Chaulnes was Superintendent of Finances under CHARLES IX of France from 1561 to 1567.) Done on July 28, 1575. Parchment (11.5 x 29 cm), seal remnant attached. (Isolated on the edge of the park of the castle of Offémont, are the ruins of the old priory Sainte-Croix. The priory was founded in 1331 by John I of Nesle to preserve a fragment of the True Cross. Four Celestines from the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-en-Chastres, in the forest of Compiègne, had been called for the occasion. The priory had been richly endowed by the lords of Offémont, who reserved their burial there. The Duke of Orleans founded a chapel there in 1403 and the priory also benefited, at that time, from the generosity of Gérard d'Arthies, Archbishop of Besançon, Lord of Moyencourt. The priory disappeared in 1779).
