Baron CAUCHY (Augustin Louis)
Mathematician, Peer of France, Member of the Academy of Sciences and Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris 1789 - Sceaux 1857). Autograph letter signed CAUCHY, from Paris on May 28, 1829, addressed to his cousin Mr RUFFIEUX, Clerk of the indirect taxes in Remiremont, Vosges. The letter is posted from the Chambre des Pairs. 1p 1/2: "I learn with pleasure my Dear Cousin, that your health has not worsened by the fatigue of the journey, nor by the resumption of your functions. I nevertheless feel how useful it would be for you to obtain a position as receiver and I am looking after your interests in this respect... I had gone that day to see the Minister, but he was absent, and I was only able to reach him yesterday at the Chambre des Pairs, where I gave him a note signed by me which he promised to give to Mr. Bacot de Romand himself..."
