GONDRECOURT (Henri-Ange-Aristide de)
General and Novelist (Guadeloupe 1816 - 1876) Beautiful private letter to General AZEMAR, 4pp in-8°. Paris, January 10, 1861: "... I read, these last days the announcement of the second part of your work on the future of the Cavalry.... excellent military thoughts. It is high time and great need that one comes to the assistance of our weapon by an energetic employment with the enemy... we need generals, cavalrymen and people of war. Who knows if spring will not give us leaves, flowers and equestrian laurels. Winter is very cold, spring may be very warm, let's see. I have talked about you several times with your excellent friend General de VIGNOLLES. I asked him, if by the large batches that will be made in 1861, given the departure of 12 to 13 generals of the army for the reserve, you would not be included in one of the next promotions... no one, more than I, wishes you the big epaulette"... he speaks of his literary work "on the Algerian South", his serial, "... "you have a friend in your regiment... who served with Mal CANROBERT..."
