DESCHANEL Paul (1855-1922) President of the Republic: LAS dated October 12, 1906 addressed to Eugène Lautier, on the letterhead of the Chamber of Deputies: "My dear colleague, I am grateful to you for your excellent article, and I beg you to receive, with my thanks, the expression of my most devoted feelings." Eugène Lautier was a French politician born on August 20, 1867 in Paulhan (Hérault) and died on February 11, 1935 in Paris. After studying law in Paris, Eugène Lautier began a career as a journalist. He became a prominent journalist at the Journal Le Temps in Paris where he wrote political articles on the front page and had André Tardieu as a colleague. He then moved to Le Figaro where he was a foreign policy journalist specializing in the colonies. In 1919, he was editor-in-chief of L'Homme libre, a newspaper founded by Georges Clemenceau who had just left the management. Eugène Lautier was a secular republican, hostile to Catholics and communists, and was close to business circles, particularly the Banque de Paris and Horace Finaly's Netherlands.
