NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE Space Telescope.... - Lot 260 - Vermot et Associés
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE Space Telescope. A beautiful photograph of a spiral galaxy located a little over 35 million light-years from Earth in the constellation The Lion. It has about the same mass and size as the Milky Way. It was discovered by the astronomer Pierre Méchain in 1781 and added to Charles Messier's famous catalog of astronomical objects four days later. This galaxy looks like a giant maelstrom of glowing gas, rippled with dark dust that swirls inward toward the nucleus. Messier 96 is a very asymmetric galaxy: its dust and gas are unevenly distributed in its faint spiral arms, and its nucleus is not exactly at the galactic center. Its arms are also asymmetric, as they are thought to have been influenced by the gravitational force of other galaxies. 2015.vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin on the front. Legend on label on back. 40.6 X 40.6CM with margins.
