Developed from 1995 in collaboration with astronauts and cosmonauts of the time, the first prototypes are named Flightmaster with a design close to the Seamaster chronograph, launched two years earlier. With their quartz movement and digital display, it has many useful functions during space missions. The name X-33 comes from the name of a space shuttle designed by NASA in the early 1990s. Used internally during the development of the model, it was finally adopted during the launch in 1997. Today, the Speedmaster X-33 is still qualified by NASA for space flight and is worn by Thomas Pesquet (in a contemporary version). A similar model can be found in the Omega Museum at under reference 346 (page 638). A similar watch (lot 8) was sold at the Omegamania auction of April 14-15, 2007 by Antiquorum for CHF 4,012.
