Ottoman Anam-i Sharif, dated 1260 AH (1844 AD) Illuminated manuscript on paper (15.5 x 10 cm). 189 leaves, apparently complete, single column, 9 lines of black naskh, titles and sura headers in white on a gilded background, 3 polychrome illuminated headers, 42 hilyehs decorated with illuminated calligraphic panels, plus 22 additional illustrations and diagrams of Islamic iconography, including depictions of Mecca, Medina, the Prophet's footprint, sandal and armor, opening leaf with Allah calligraphic panel and decorative carpet page to last leaf, all enhanced with gold, some later color additions, gold-framed leaves, gilded polychrome medallions marking verses throughout text. A few traces of oxidation along the gilded fillets forming tears (now repaired), occasional shifting of the text and a few stains. Vintage calf binding, gold-edged boards with painted center panels, resewn, lined and edges repaired, lightly rubbed. Provenance: Dreweatts, London, December 6, 2017, lot 125.
