Henri BOSCO (Avignon 1888–1976, novelist) / Signed autograph - Lot 135
Henri BOSCO (Avignon 1888–1976, novelist) / Signed autograph letter, 2 pages in-4, on letterhead from the Grand Café de la Bourse in Avignon, [1929], to Louis-Daniel HIRSCH (1891–1974, sales director at Éditions Gallimard and member of the editorial committee): He informs him that he has “urgently returned all the proofs of Q. de S. [“Quartier de Sagesse”],” adding, “I beg you to speed things up, to really push Mademoiselle Gall [in the production department]”; Bosco is already thinking about the promotional blurb and suggests “Under the olive tree in Barbentane…NRF”—For the subscription campaign, he will propose three other taglines: “Barbentane, too, has hearts…,” “We love Barbentane… ” or “Barbentane, a place of tenderness...” He will put together “the promotional flyer” and send it to him immediately [the “just published” flyer]; “Lourmarin held a festival and an art exhibition, both of which were very successful”; He says he received an “epistle” from Benjamin Crémieux (1888–1944, literary critic and also a member of Gallimard’s reading committee) in which “he places a friend of his under my wing in Naples” and comments ironically: “You know me well enough to realize I’m too impulsive to pass up such an opportunity to do a favor for someone I’ve been itching to tease. My wing will be gentle toward this protégé of Crémieux’s. Very gentle”; He adds at the end that he will remain in Lourmarin until October 18
