LEGION OF HONOR. Autograph letter signed by French Chancellor Charles Henri DAMBRAY (Rouen 1760 - 1829) - to Count Boniface de CASTELLANE, Peer of France, Lieutenant-General (1788 - 1862). Paris April 19, 1823: "I have just received the ampliation of the King's order of today, by which His Majesty, wishing to give a new mark of His esteem and benevolence to His Chamber of Peers, deigns to grant several of them different grades in the LEGION D'HONNEUR. I am pleased to be entrusted with the task of announcing to you that you are included in this Ordinance for the Grade of Grand Officer: you are to receive the insignia from the hands of the King, and the Grand Chancellor of the Order will inform you directly of the day and hour which His Majesty will have fixed for your reception...". 1 page in-4 - Charles Henri DAMBRAY was Deputy of the Seine, Chancellor of France, President of the Chamber of Peers and Academician.
