AUBE. "POSTES-RELAIS de FRANCE." Letter signed Louis Antoine - Lot 478
AUBE. "POSTES-RELAIS de FRANCE." Letter signed Louis Antoine FAUVELET DE BOURRIENNE, Directeur général des Postes en Avril, Mai 1814, to Mr BEAUPREY Inspecteur des Postes-Relais, concerning the Trunk service at the Relais de TROYES (Aube). Paris, May 5, 1814: "I have received ... your letters and the documents attached to it, among which is the Treaty you signed to ensure the Trunk service at the Relais de TROYES. The Council was unable to approve this Treaty for the reasons you sought to justify in your letter of the 26th. Sieur BOURLIER LAPRAIRIE, in his capacity as Postmaster, is unable to sign such a Treaty. If he has the means to provide any service, it must be under the conditions determined by the laws and regulations governing the Post Office. The pretext of his losses... cannot free him from the obligations that his position imposes on him towards the administration... The Council will successively examine the proposals that you make to it concerning the other Relais, and will let you know its decision later... The lack of available funds is an obstacle to various measures that could contribute to re-establishing, on a better footing, the Relais that have suffered from the events of the war. I hope, however, that the Board will find the means to come to the aid of those who have suffered most...". 3 pages in-4° (Fauvelet de Bourrienne, appointed by the coalised on March 31, 1814, was replaced on May 12. The King had no confidence in this former friend of Emperor Napoleon I).
