NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Historic APOLLO 11 mission. - Lot 90
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Historic APOLLO 11 mission. Buzz Aldrin accesses the imposing lunar module "EAGLE" to retrieve scientific measuring instruments. We're in the middle of "MOON WALK", the most famous human spacewalk in history, which saw man walk on lunar soil for the first time. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked around their spacecraft for almost two hours and fifteen minutes, carrying out a series of scientific experiments. This beautiful large-format view of the lunar module "EAGLE" is complete with, to the left of Buzz Aldrin's silhouette on the lunar floor, the 1st garbage bag of the space conquest, whose white shape appears half-lit on the floor. This bag in fact contained the various waste products of the APOLLO 11 crew after their 4-day journey from Earth to the Moon. In the bottom right-hand corner, the first human footprints on extraterrestrial soil can be seen, and Buzz Aldrin's right foot, lifted backwards, reveals the famous striped sole of the "Moon Boots" worn by the Apollo astronauts. The date is July 20, 1969. Period chromogenic print on "A KODAK PAPER" paper firmly held on a period card. 50.7 x 40.4 cm. Expert's Opinion: Large-format vintage NASA prints were intended for personalities in the American space program, as well as for political leaders. Their production was very limited, and many, after being on display for a few years during the golden age of the American space conquest, were destroyed. Most of the vintage prints were kept by engineers and personalities involved in the American space program and their heirs. These prints were first and foremost American Trophies, embodying America's triumphant victory in the Space Race. Condition: this historic vintage print shows cracks, stains, slight folding and discoloration, while presenting a rare and probably unique close-up image of the lunar module "EAGLE". The starting price takes these elements into account, whereas for a print of an equivalent image - subject to existence - in "standard" vintage condition, the price would be in the middle of the high and low estimates.
