NASA. LARGE FORMAT. James Webb Telescope. A superb star-forming region nearby. Webb's precise infrared vision allows us to pierce the dusty veil and reveal fledgling stars, brown dwarfs and objects of planetary mass. Many of the young stars in this image are surrounded by disks of gas and dust, which could eventually give rise to planetary systems. On the right-hand side of the image, we can see the shadow of one of these disks, oriented from the edge: two dark cones emanating from opposite sides, standing out against a luminous background.
