Ceremonial anthropomorphic axe. - Lot 113
Ceremonial anthropomorphic axe. Dark green stone with a beautiful polish. Length: 18 cm Colima culture, ca. 100 B.C.-250 A.D. Mexico Axe with a rounded tip at one end and a man's face at the other. The man is depicted in relief as straddling the handle. The arms are folded and the neck is the only unpolished part. The head is topped with a cap. The ears are treated in very geometric relief. The lips are finely hemmed. The eyes are coffee-bean shaped. The face exudes serenity. A fine and unusual example of stonework in Colima art.
