Charles MAURRAS(1868-1952) / "Pour un Réveil Français", "A l'Ombre des Cyprès",1943, "Cet ouvrage, entièrement inédit, non mis en le commerce, a été tiréaux aux dépens de quelques Amis de l'Auteur et ne sera jamais réimprimé", First edition from a total run of 750 copies, this one-one of 50 on vellum à la Forme de Lana(n° 20), "with one handwritten page" - 62 p in sheets under titled filled soft cover (25 x 33,5 cm), some surface yellowing on title page, interior quite fresh, cover in good condition, set preserved in titled hard cover (soiling, spine repaired with cracks, missing fastener) - The manuscript page advertised for this first copy is indeed present, it is an excerpt from a manuscript, autograph signed by Charles Maurras: "drawn from the "Seule France" of 1941" - Maurras signed it, mentioning "2048" as his prison number, and dated it December 18, 1946, in Riom - This sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the publication of this work in very small numbers: the date mentioned on the title page and in-finé of1943 is apocryphal, since the manuscript announced as enriching the first edition is dated Riom 1946, when Maurras was incarcerated after being sentenced to life imprisonment and national degradation - it is therefore a clandestine, backdated edition, and a slip is made in the proof of printing: it mentions an authorization number "R. 2048", which is none other than Maurras's prison number in Riom! Another facet is the name of the publisher "A l'Ombre des Cyprés" (yes, Maurras was indeed... in the shade!) - A very rare copy.
