Cycling / Prehistory / Travel book " Coups de pédale et Ecla - Lot 12
Cycling / Prehistory / Travel book " Coups de pédale et Eclats de rire " E. Torpin de Vul, 1894, 125 p., Ed. Nemours (insolate cover) A book about a cycling adventure in 1894, which takes us on a fabulous journey from Bray-sur-Seine to Trouville. The cycling guide hides under a pseudonym that has yet to be cracked, but what a plunge into real pedaling life, passing through Nemours, Rouen, Dieppe, Saint Valery en Caux and Le Havre. We meet real life, the real people of the time. Torpin's motto: "The bicycle will be the link between peoples...", cider, fishing, bathing, the fish market, the Casino, an ocean liner and good humor are all on the agenda of the two pedaling explorers. Did Maurice Leblanc have this essay in hand before publishing his sparkling "Voici des ailes" in 1898? The clumsiness is touching, and we're in touch with the reality of cycling at the time. "Le Véloce Sport" is not far off, nor is Moët et Chandon or Rouxel et Dubois. 4-line dedication signed by the author in 1895 in St Sauveur les Bray; perhaps it will help budding Arsène Lupin to unravel this mystery. Very rare.
