Cycling / Tour / Faber Handwritten postcard sent by François - Lot 48
Cycling / Tour / Faber Handwritten postcard sent by François FABER to his grandmother Mme Tenier, in Courbevoie, on October 1, 1914, while he was a soldier in training with the 1er Etranger in Bayonne. The monumental François Faber, the giant from Colombes, hero of the 1909 Tour, where he won 6 stages and 19 in all. His other Tour placings were 2nd (twice), 5th, 7th, 9th and 14th. He also won 2 Paris-Tours, Paris-Brussels, Paris-Roubaix, Bordeaux-Paris and the Tour of Lombardy. This native of Aulnay sur Iton, not far from Bayeux, fell in 1915, because although he was a Luxembourger, he enlisted for love of France. A friend of Alphonse Steinès and Alphonse Baugé, the "Giant of Colombes" was generous and exemplary. Family provenance through André Leduq
