Cycling / Tour / Mondial Saddle of André DARRIGADE, 1959 roa - Lot 132
Cycling / Tour / Mondial Saddle of André DARRIGADE, 1959 road world champion, Brooks brand, black leather, 3 rivets at front, 6 rivets at rear 29 x 14 cm A Tour man if ever there was one, "the Landes greyhound" André Darrigade (b. 1929) from Dax and Biarritz, not only won 22 stages and wore the yellow jersey for 19 days (between 1955 and 1964), but was also world road champion in Zandvoort in 1959. He accomplished this feat sitting on this superb saddle for over 7 hours. A unique piece. A theme to be explored, along with Picasso's bull, and some rare marvels that have weathered the storms, such as saddles by Bottecchia, or Dewaële. With the saddle, you know the rider", as Francis Pélissier used to say.
