Cycling / Tour / Lévitan Jean-Pierre DJIVANIDES (1953) Portr - Lot 195
Cycling / Tour / Lévitan Jean-Pierre DJIVANIDES (1953) Portrait of Félix Lévitan (1911-2007) Ink and gouache highlights, signed and captioned lower right 32.5 x 25 cm This portrait in tie illustrated "L'Equipe Magazine" on June 28, 1980. With Jacques Goddet (1905-2000), Félix Lévitan formed the ideal pair to manage such a large and complex organization as the Tour de France. They weren't simply the good guy and the bad guy, as shortcuts would have you believe. Félix certainly had authority, but with Jacques in the role of commander, they shared the same passion, the same devotion to "La Grande Boucle". Jacques, who had revived it in 1947, imposed it with his winged pen and brought Blondin along; Félix modernized it and, in 1975, gave it the polka-dot jersey and the finish on the Champs-Elysées. Along with Desgrange and Géo Lefèvre, Jacques and Félix made it possible for the Tour to become a centenary without a single wrinkle.
