Ohannès ALHAZIAN (Armenian, 1881-1958) Still life with pitcher and fruit. Framed oil on canvas. Signed lower left. 64.5 x 50.5 cm. Born in Van, where he spent his childhood until the age of sixteen, Alhazian began his artistic studies in Tiflis (Georgia) at the School of Painting (1898-1903), then in Paris at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts (1905-1908). It was in Paris that he settled permanently, taking part in numerous salons and exhibiting in major galleries. He is a painter of luminous, sunny landscapes. Man is often absent, expressing a feeling of absolute calm and serenity.
