Tennis / Les Mousquetaires / Déro / France - Lot 194
Tennis / Les Mousquetaires / Déro / France Robert Décremps, alias DÉRO (1920-2000) The Musketeers India ink on paper, signed 50 x 39 cm Original illustration for "La Fabuleuse histoire du tennis" by Christian Quidet, published by Odil, 1977 (preface by A. Blondin). Déro deals with subjects he loves: panache, France, beauty and great players. He places under the same hat the four players who helped France wrest the Davis Cup from the Americans in 1927, on their home turf. We recognize Borotra, Brugnon, Cochet and Lacoste. They defended this fabulous trophy at the purpose-built Roland Garros from 1928 to 1932. They gave a fundamental impetus to French sport, to soccer and the World Cup, as well as to the Tour de France by national teams: "These rackets carried far, Madame, and these spurred riders rode high," said Henri Desgrange.
