India ink on paper, signed 50 x 39 cm Original illustrations for "La Fabuleuse histoire du tennis" by Christian Quidet, published by Odil, 1977 (preface by A. Blondin). The great Spaniard (1938-2021) is depicted as a musketeer. This right-hander, whose realm was clay, possessed a devastating one-handed backhand. He triumphed twice at Roland-Garros, in 1961 and 1964 against Nicolas Pietrangeli. The accompanying illustration shows the eternal player, swaying to serve better. The attitude is spectacular and was used as a generic illustration in "La Fabuleuse histoire du Tennis". How better to enter this great story than in the wake of this fabulous guide?
