GARD. ALÈS. Louis François de VIVET DE MONTCLUS, Marquis de - Lot 65
GARD. ALÈS. Louis François de VIVET DE MONTCLUS, Marquis de Montclus et de Montpezat (Nîmes 1687 - Alès 1755) Bishop of ST BRIEUC, then of ALÈS in 1744 - autograph letter signed from the Bishop of ALÈS d'Alais (Alès) April 14, 1746, to Mr AUZIAS Lieutenant de juge à TRESQUES (Gard). 2 pages in-8°, wax seal of arms, broken at opening: "We learn icy, Sir, a disaster which angers me much. Madame de Servejan's chambermaid is four months pregnant, and claims that it is the work of Tesson, my kitchen assistant, to whom she wrote that she would come here to force him to marry her. This is very unpleasant, especially as he has no such intention, and neither of them has anything. Please be so kind as to speak to this creature, as you should, and tell her that she should not dare to do anything foolish, for I would have her locked up for the rest of her days, as she deserves, even though apparently Tesson is not the only culprit, and it is not fitting in my house that a girl of this sort should make noise... ". Complainant's reply on 3rd page: ... She wants Mr Tesson to kill her or she wants to kill him if he doesn't marry her, she didn't want to hear about accommodation..."
