NASA. Planet MARS. This composite image towards the highest - Lot 276
NASA. Planet MARS. This composite image towards the highest regions of Mount Sharp was acquired during sol 1099 of the mission (September 9, 2015), using the 100mm mast camera on the right side of the Curiosity rover. In the foreground, about 3 kilometers from the rover, is a long ridge teeming with hematite, an iron oxide. Just beyond is an undulating plain rich in clay minerals. And just beyond, a multitude of rounded buttes, all rich in sulfate minerals. The evolution of mineralogy in these Mount Sharp layers suggests a changing environment in early Mars, although all imply exposure to water billions of years ago. 2015. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin. Legend on label on back. 25.4 x 20.4 cm with margins.
