Collection of homilies with the life of Saint Basil the Great, circa 1830 Manuscript on paper in liturgical Slavonic. In-folio, 80 leaves (plus one endpaper at each end). 25 lines in ornamental square Cyrillic characters; iridescent red rubrics; lines of ornamental red and black capitals opening the main texts; single and small initials in the same motifs, surrounded by foliage; larger initials in yellow with red foliage and pen ornament; a large initial in red and green bands with foliage scrolls occupying half the page and ending in stylized yellow and green foliage; (fol. 1v), frontispiece with opening text in calligraphic capitals, inserted into an architectural element formed of line-drawn red pillars and surmounted by a line-drawn cross, surrounded by foliage and birds; the margin is filled with a decorative bar with shapes and foliage mounted on it (one of these shapes with birds on its edges); a chimera formed of a bird's body and a human head with pink cheeks and crown at the top of the bar, resting on its upper loop. A blue-edged collector's label inscribed N°178 and the date 1912. Some staining to edges; a few leaves torn; detaching from binding in places; overall good condition; contemporary binding in finely worked brown leather over beveled wooden boards; two clasps damaged; some scuffing and tearing to edges, but solid binding.
