Irmologion - Lot 27
Irmologion Manuscript on paper based on the works of Saint John of Damascus, containing the text of the chants and notes reminiscent of the neumes, but using the modern five-line staff rather than the four-line staff of the neumatic system. Executed in 1798 by Abbot Aristarques of the Bogolioubovo monastery near Vladimir, according to the autograph text on the title page. Russia, late 18th century. Bound in cold-stamped calf on boards. 19.2 x 16 cm. Handling soiling, stains, detached flyleaf, detached front cover, spine damaged, edges rubbed with some loss to boards and corners. One clasp missing and another incomplete. Annotations and drawings on endpapers. Provenance: Prof. H. Menges (1908-1999), professor at Columbia University. Columbia University.
