The Bible (Evangeliia) in Slavonic - Lot 32

The Bible (Evangeliia) in Slavonic Book printed in Cyrillic script, probably in 1624. In-folio (290 x 175 mm). Four large full-page woodcuts depicting the Evangelists, woodcut headbands and ornate letters at the head of each Gospel, printed in red and black, pagination in Cyrillic alphabetical numerals, Cyrillic signatures. - Missing leaves 1 (title page), 2, 4 and 10 of the first quire without the blank leaves M2 and SS1 not counted in the pagination; a few tears, mostly restored, some with handwritten transcriptions; a few soiled or damp-stained leaves. - Bound in velvet on wood, decorated boards: the first board bears an oval medallion in gilt metal depicting the Crucifixion, with the symbols of the Evangelists at the corners; the second board is decorated with a medallion engraved with an inscription dated 1664; brass borders (slightly worn, clasps missing).
