Beautiful silver and gilt metal processional cross, 1765 Ornamented at the ends with the tetramorphic symbols of the Evangelists in gilded metal, and in the center with a faceted semi-precious stone. A beautiful Armenian inscription on the back reads as follows: This Holy Cross is in memory of Hajji (pilgrim) Minas son of Abraham and his wife Hripsimé, 1765, for the church of Sainte-Mère-de-Dieu in Van. This magnificent cross was made by the renowned silversmiths of Van, a city with eight churches, including one dedicated to the Mother of God. Van, Ottoman Armenia, 18th century. Height: 26 cm. Weight: 128 g.
