Small silver blessing crucifix, 1904 Around Christ the usual Armenian abbreviations equivalent to I.N.R.I. and Սուրբ Աստված, սուրբ և հզոր (Holy, powerful and immortal God). On the back an inscription: ՍԲ ՍՏԵՓԱՆՈՍԻ ԿԱՐ(ԱԱՐԱՊԵՏԻ) ՍԲ ՎԱՆՔՈՒՄ ՄՆԱ ԸՆՁԱՅԵՑԻ ԽԱՉՍ ՅԻՇԱՏԱԿ ՍԲ ՕՀԱՆՆԷՍ ՎԱՆՔԻՆ ՈՐԷ ԸՆՁԱԵՕՂ- ՕՀԱՆՆԷՍ Տ(Ե)Ր ՍՏԵՓԱՆԵԱՆ ԴԱՐԱՇԱՄԲԵՑՈ 1904 ՄԱՐ 5ԸՆ ԱՄՍԻ ԿՈՐԾ ՕՀԱՆՆԵՍ ՏՐ ԱՆ: (To remain in the Sourp-Stépanos-Sourp-Karapet church, I offered this holy cross to the Sourp-Ohannes church in memory of me the goldsmith Ohannes Der Stepanian of Darashamb, on March 5, 1904). Silver-plated metal handle. The crucifix probably predates the inscription on the back. Height : 21 cm. Weight : 155 g. Darashamb is an ancient Armenian village in Iran on the border with Nakhijevan, some fifteen kilometers from old Djulfa. Its church, still in existence today, is dedicated to Saint Stephen (Sourp Stepanos).
