I have the honor of informing you that the 2 Companies of Grenadiers of the last Battalions of the 4th and 30th Regiments, embarked this morning aboard the frigate "LA FINE" and that they will leave this evening if the wind is good. Instead of 1500 men for the full complement and 2 Battalions on a war footing, we were only able to bring them up to 1360, 1380, so only 120 men will be missing... Just as I was about to finish this letter, an extraordinary courier arrived, bringing me the letter of November 1st, in which you instructed me to embark only the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Regiment at 500 men. I am accordingly carrying out these orders, and am disembarking the Company of Grenadiers... I would point out to you, Sir, that this 2nd Battalion of the 30th Regiment had already spent part of the 3-month advance and that embarkation would have taken place here.... Since 1350 men would have been ready to leave on the 9th or 10th. Time when the Bâtiments d'embarquement would have been ready: because they were being worked on with zeal, and with the means that a large Arsenal provides...... " 2 folio pages.
