MARINE. LANDOLPHE Jean François (Auxonne 1767 - Paris 1825) - Lot 273
MARINE. LANDOLPHE Jean François (Auxonne 1767 - Paris 1825) French sailor. Lettre A.S. adressée au citoyen FORESTIER, Paris le 3 Thermidor An IX (22 Juillet 1801) - 2 pages in-4° - In August 1800, under the Consulate, Landolphe cruised near Rio de Janeiro, commanding a small division of three frigates; attacked by a numerically superior English fleet, he was defeated, and only one frigate escaped. Back in France, Landolphe appeared before the council of war, which acquitted him. Interesting letter about his campaigns: "This letter is to ask you to give a decision so that I can receive the table salary due to me, both for myself and for Citizen Lerch, battalion commander of the troop that spent the entire campaign with me. I also have to ask you to tell me when I will be able to pass my jury; I want this case to take place as soon as possible, as Citizen Lerch can be admitted as a witness, as well as an officer who is here and who was on the frigate LA FRANCHISE."
