Amédée-Louis DESPANS de CUBIÈRES (Paris 1786 - 1853) General - Lot 455
Amédée-Louis DESPANS de CUBIÈRES (Paris 1786 - 1853) General, Minister of War - 2 Autograph Letters signed : ANTIVILLE by Goderville (Seine-Inférieure) December 10, 1851 - Superb text: "... I set out for Fécamp and the manufacturing centers of the Eure. I wanted to judge for myself the state of mind, and to make sure I was prepared to fire a rifle on my doorstep... judging very reasonably the conduct of the Legitimist, Orleanist and Socialist parties in the Assembly, united to get rid of the President, except to kill each other afterwards to seize authority, what would have become of France during this conflict? ... it's not 6, but 8 million YES votes that the Prince President will collect. You heard your father say that Bonaparte had saved France on 18 Brumaire, and mine, squire to Louis XVI and page to Louis XV, said the same. The same refrain applies everywhere I've been to the December 2nd act. We shall see how many votes the Prince de JOINVILLE and HENRI V will have, for it is to them that all the NO votes must be applied...". - 10 pages in-8° + 1 envelope - (mounted on tabs)
