WAR OF 1870-1871. "Circular addressed to the Diplomatic Agen - Lot 505
WAR OF 1870-1871. "Circular addressed to the Diplomatic Agents of France by the Vice-President of the Government of National Defense." Jules FAVRE Minister of Foreign Affairs. September 6, 1870: "Monsieur. The events which have just taken place in Paris are so well explained by the inexorable logic of the facts.... The people of Paris obeyed a higher necessity, that of their own salvation. They did not pronounce the forfeiture of Napoleon III and his dynasty, of justice and public salvation... A shameful Peace would be a war of extermination in the short term. We will only deal for a lasting Peace... We only want Peace. But, if the disastrous war we have condemned continues against us, we will do our duty to the end... our cause will triumph in the end. It is in this sense that I invite you to explain the situation to the Minister of the Court to which you are accredited...". Imprimerie Nationale. September 1870. Poster (110 x 71 cm) Condition A
