NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Historic mission of the Space Shuttle Challenger (STS 41B). 1st flight by a free man in untethered space. Astronaut Bruce McCandless photographed during an extravehicular activity (EVA), taken from inside the space shuttle's aft flight deck. He uses his hands to control his movement in space while operating the nitrogen-powered maneuvering unit (MMU). McCandless floats untethered from the shuttle, getting so close that the shuttle's reflection can be seen in McCandless's helmet. February 1984. Later chromogenic print. Numbering on front.
