NASA. LARGE FORMAT. NASA's Cassini spacecraft has delivered a magnificent view of Saturn, taken while in Saturn's shadow. The cameras were aimed at Saturn and the Sun, so that the planet and its rings were backlit. (With the Sun behind the planet, the cameras are protected from direct sunlight). In addition to the visual splendor, this particular observation geometry, at very high phase, enables scientists to study phenomena in the rings and atmosphere that are difficult to observe at low phase. As such images can only be taken when the Sun is behind the planet, this magnificent view is all the more precious for its rarity. 2012. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin.
