[DUCRAY-DUMINIL (François-Guillaume)] Petit-Jacques et Georgette. ou Les Petits montagnards auvergnats ; par l'auteur de Lolotte et Fanfan, et d'Alexis, ou La Maisonnette dans les bois. Paris, Le Prieur, 1792. 4 volumes small in-12 contemporary half calf, smooth spine decorated, green paper corners. Second edition, small format, illustrated with 4 frontispieces engraved by Duhamel after Bernet, identical to those of the original edition, published the same year. This novel was aimed at young people, written with ease and in a very accessible language, triumphing over innocence and virtue, as befits this literary genre. Like most of Ducray-Duminil's (1761-1819) fiction aimed at this particular audience, it was a huge success, and was reprinted many times, which of course did not preclude the oblivion into which it sank with its author after the 1830s.
