BOERHAAVE: Traité de la vertu des médicaments, translated from the Latin of M. Herman Boerhaave, by M. de Vaux...Paris, Clouzier, 1739. In-12 contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed and ornamented (headbands and corners worn, large part of 1st blank page missing, small amount of wetness in margins of first few leaves). In this work, Boerhaave develops an experimental and rational approach to pharmacology: it is no longer a question of simply describing remedies, but of explaining how and why a drug acts on the body.
