VALLEY (Amédée): On my palette. Roses thinned out. Sonnets. - Lot 77
VALLEY (Amédée): On my palette. Roses thinned out. Sonnets. Editions de l'Idée, 1895. In-12 contemporary blue half-chagrin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head, cover preserved. First edition, illustrated with a fine engraved faux-title, here in three states. French painter, illustrator, engraver, writer and poet active in Paris in the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. He was a keen observer of his times, and painted a great deal from life's motif, always engaging and lively. Amédée Valley not only painted his favorite subjects, he also translated into poems the impressions that the act of painting and the image he transcribed aroused in him. A fine copy of this unusual book.
