MANUSCRIT - MONTAGNE - Unbound notebook in-8, without covers - Lot 168
MANUSCRIT - MONTAGNE - Unbound notebook in-8, without covers. Important 266-page manuscript, in fine, legible handwriting, probably written by Jacques or John MALIGNON, son of Joseph Malignon, or a very close relative (César Malignon...) bearing this family name. The family cradle of this branch of the Malignon family is Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Malignon recounts in detail the many trips he made to the South of France, particularly to Savoy, the Rhône and Auvergne, but also to Switzerland. The first trip began on August 13, 1848, the last in 1859. The author was clearly a lover of mountains and hiking, as well as seaside resorts. Numerous descriptions of landscapes and villages where they stopped, where, as lovers of good food, they always mention the inns they frequented and the menus in detail; many names quoted; etc...some of the towns and villages mentioned: Vevey, Bagnols, Morzine, Allières, La Comballaz, Collonges, les Rousses, Lac Léman, Vallée des Ormonds, district de l'Aigle, Monthey, Villeneuve, Bonneville, Vallée de Chamonix, etc. A truly interesting document, teeming with the most picturesque details and information. Attached is a manuscript fragment in the same hand, dated 1873, approx. 50 pages long: essentially autobiographical.
