CHATRY-LAFOSSE (Pierre Jacques Samuel, Chevalier de) (Caen 1 - Lot 459
CHATRY-LAFOSSE (Pierre Jacques Samuel, Chevalier de) (Caen 1737 - 1814), Mayor of CAEN in 1789, Deputy of CALVADOS between 1795 and 1800. Letter A.S. CHATRY-LAFOSSE, from Paris on 12 Nivôse An 9 (January 2, 1801). 2 pages in-4°. Private collection stamp: "Mon Cher ancien Collègue, I have received your letter... You are quite right to say that we must redouble our surveillance here and throughout the Republic, to repress the attacks of the Brigands... Good fortune has not abandoned the 1st Consul. One can only shudder to think of the misfortunes that might have befallen him, had the infernal coup succeeded... I thank you for the interest you are taking in my two sons. They are still in the Army of Italy. Their regiment is in the vanguard. The elder, since his wound at the Battle of MARENGO, has been made Second-Lieutenant, while the younger is a Maréchal des logis. I still hope that the victories won by General MOREAU will give us peace. We're waiting every moment for news from this part of the world.... Our Army is only 40 leagues from VIENNE. "Postscript: We are summoned extraordinarily at 2 a.m., as are the Senate and the Tribunate. It is rumored, even certain, that the Peace has been signed with the Emperor. I fear that by delaying my letter, it will not be able to leave by post. No doubt the couriers who left today will announce it everywhere. It is 2 a.m."
