RIFIFI - Auguste LE BRETON(1913-1999, prolific author of det - Lot 365
RIFIFI - Auguste LE BRETON(1913-1999, prolific author of detective novels, to whom we owe the word "rififi" - many of his novels have been adapted for the cinema) / Autograph manuscript (handwritten) on 4 in-4 sheets (21 x 27 cm), totalizing 5 pages of writings and sketches: Exceptional working notes for the preparation of a film about the "safe robbery", a mythical and coveted theme in the world of burglars, and therefore particularly exploited and dealt with in "thrillers" - The notes are accompanied by technical sketches, showing Le Breton's meticulous preparation, precision and, above all, his desire for credibility - On the first sheet, Le Breton explains the "bridge work", sketching the safe: drilling a hole in the center and tapping - He specifies: "the blowtorch does not bite on an armored safe on cement" - On the second sheet, he concludes: "Safe (outdated blowtorch) - However excellent and effective the work of the bridge, can not be retained for our film - I explain: the viewer won't find it credible - he'll be surprised that an armored safe door can be opened so easily - the work will be too fast, and we'll be unable to place our suspense - apart from drilling the hole and tapping, the trick isn't spectacular - on the contrary, the work of the HOMARD PIN offers everything we want - the work is longer and more frightening: 1st phase: unseal the chest from the wall and slowly, very slowly, lay it forward on blankets and carpets, so as to have the most vulnerable part of the chest, i.e. the wall adhering to the wall on the underside - We'll work on the rear wall - Drill several holes - Hand saw blade - Spare blades - We break every other blade as we work - And cut the chest as if with a can opener" - Le Breton gives technical explanatory sketches on the other two sheets [Provenance: Auguste Le Breton sale at Drouot in March 2015 at Gros Delettrez "Du Rififi à Drouot"]
