Pierre PUVIS de CHAVANNES(1824-1898,Symbolist Painter)/ Autograph letter signed, 1 p in-8 plus address page with postage (letter-card), Paris, August 26, 1896, toJérôme DOUCET(1865-1957):"The proof you send me is as good as it can be, and since your intention is to include this portrait in your publication, I will not hesitate to take it as it is - it would be impossible for me to make the alterations you ask for, as I would not have the time, and I repeat, they seem unnecessary to me" [This is the illustration by Puvis de Chavannes for Jérôme Doucet's own publication, "Chanson des Larmes", which appeared in the "Revue Illustrée" at the end of 1896].
