THIERS (Adolphe) Marseille 1797- Saint Germain en Laye 1877; French politician, Minister, President of the Republic (1871), journalist and historian: 2 Letters A.S. "A. THIERS Minister of the Interior and "A. THIERS", to M. JOURDAN, (Paris), December 17 and 23, 1835, together 3pp in-8° - In the first, he warmly and extensively recommends M. DAUPHIN, Comptroller of Direct Taxes in Marseille, for a position as Principal Comptroller in one of the neighboring Bouches-du-Rhône Departments. The latter is to marry the sister of a friend of THIERS "... Monsieur MIGNET, who is a true brother to me, and what doesn't always happen, a brother I love...", etc. In the second, he replies: "I only ask that you come as soon as possible and as close to noon as possible...". + L.A.S. January 13, 1855, 1p in-8°: "Send me my semester so that I can finish my year's accounts...". + L.A.S. from Madame THIERS, November 19, 1877 - "Monsieur, Overwhelmed by the pain of a heartbreaking separation, I have not yet been able to thank you for the deep regrets you felt on learning of the death of Monsieur THIERS, so cruel for me, so unfortunate for his country, which he loved with passion and which he never ceased to serve with great devotion. Deprived of an affection which, for forty-four years, had been the happiness and interest of my life, my affliction is extreme..." - 4pp in-8° edged in black + an envelope written by M.
