Pierre-Jean de BÉRANGER (1780-1857) Chansonnier, Compositeur - Lot 550
Pierre-Jean de BÉRANGER (1780-1857) Chansonnier, Compositeur, Poète, Écrivain, Député de la SEINE - Autograph letter signed BÉRANGER, from Passy, December 14, 1843, to poet-worker Jean-Louis GONZALLE from Reims (1815-1879). 2 pages in-8°: beautiful letter of encouragement on receipt of his volume of poems, "when one makes such verses, one should not fear to see them badly received, ... May such a remarkable talent always be, in the position that fate has given you, a source of courage and consolation. Your various poems, which I read with such pleasure, give a high idea of your character, and one is happy to see the so difficult virtues of the worker making themselves a relief from what was for too long the share of the idle classes alone, "poetry has only to gain from this product of our revolution. The people think, and you prove it better than anyone, Monsieur, by the number of ideas that flow through your veins. I hope that your talent will grow through reflection and hard work. It only remains for me to wish you all the success you already deserve, and to thank you for the lovely verses contained in your letter...". + Enclosed: period portrait in business-card format.
