Alexandre Joseph de SÉGUR, Vicomte de SÉGUR (1793 - 1864) - - Lot 564
Alexandre Joseph de SÉGUR, Vicomte de SÉGUR (1793 - 1864) - Signed autograph letter written at Château de SILLERY (Épinay-sur-Orge, Essonne), January 11, 1849: "I received your letter of the 5th of this month, but pressing business affairs prevented an earlier reply. I thank you and Madame de SÉGUR for your kind regards, which we both appreciate. We intended to spend the winter here, but measles is in the country, forcing us to return to Paris. Though sadly here, my wife and I return with regret to this city, the greatest enemy of itself and of France, which is paying cruelly for its love of change! We are separated from our children: My son-in-law is in the Army of the Alps; he asked for his wife, so I took her and his two little girls to him. We often hear from them. All are doing well. We try to make up for our absence by writing to each other often. I pay you my compliments for staying in Évreux after being threatened with being sent so far away. You are more grateful than you deserve for the small service I have rendered you. I would like to be in a position to do you another, by obtaining for you a position more worthy of your position and your education, but for a long time, at least I believe, I will not be able to be useful to my friends; if however the opportunity should present itself, you must not doubt my eagerness. Please offer my respects to your Ladies, and an affectionate remembrance to Mr your father-in-law..." 2 pages (21.5 x 17.5 cm)
