A Kuba chief's staff - Lot 2
A Kuba chief's staff Carved wood in the shape of a spear, one end features two lozenges decorated with Kuba royal symbols carved in bas-relief on both sides. The other end, in the form of a handle, is also decorated with Kuba royal motifs on both sides. A copper wire is wound around the handle at two points. Democratic Republic of Congo, 20th century. Height: 165 cm. Very good condition, a few small marks, scratches and scuffs. Provenance: Collection of the Esther and Alan Saks family. The Kuba kingdom, also known as the Bakuba or Bushongo kingdom, is a traditional kingdom of Central Africa.
