Early 19th-century Ottoman manuscript Composite collection of handwritten documents in Ottoman Turkish with French copies of Sultan Selim III's letter to Napoleon I, Napoleon's proclamation to his troops massed along the Niemen (June 22, 1812), a page with verses by the poet Théophile: Sous un calme trompeur, le monde a mille écueils. Final pages in Greek script with index. Probably intended for an Ottoman diplomat in contact with France. In-4° (23.5 cm). Approx. 430 pages, most of them numbered. Period leather binding damaged.
