Welsh Bible (Y Bibl Cyssegr-lan, sef yr Hen Destament a'r Ne - Lot 125
Welsh Bible (Y Bibl Cyssegr-lan, sef yr Hen Destament a'r Newydd) London, impr. Bonham Norton and John Bill (Printedig yn Llùndain : Gan Bonham Norton a Iohn Bill, printwyr i Adderchoccaf fawrhydi y Brenhin), 1620. In-folio (38 cm). 1172 pages. The New Testament has a separate dated title page. Revision of the first edition of the Welsh Bible of 1588, prepared by Richard Parry and John Davies, who redacted the first edition's translation of the Hebraisms, apparently to make it conform more closely to the authorized English version of 1611. This second edition became the standard edition of the Welsh Bible. Its format is similar to that of the large, gothic-printed folio editions of the King James Bible.Translator's dedication to Queen Elizabeth signed: Gulielmus Morganus (William Morgan). Dedication to King James (Richard Asaphen) signed by Richard Parry. Missing general title page (supplied in good quality facsimile), preliminary pages (calendar, etc.), as well as pages Y3 (supplied) and Y4 (blank) at end. A lower corner of one leaf is slightly torn, affecting a few words. Some traces of moisture, especially on the last twelve or so leaves, with old reinforcement at page edges that could be improved, but no lack of text. Old calf binding, repaired at bottom of spine. Overall, a solid, good-quality work, with wide margins and only very rare gaps in the biblical text. This is an almost complete copy of a very rare and important Bible.
