** Vardapet Andréas de Kutahya ((Անդրէաս ծայրագոյն վարդապետ կուտինցւո), On the Primacy of the Holy See of Rome (Ի վերա գլխաւորութիւն Սրբոյ Աթոռոյն Հռովմայ) Manuscript dated 1831 and later. In-4° (approx. 24 x 18 cm.). (1), 349, (2) pages, blue marbled paper cover (detached), spine ribbed (ribbing rubbed, marginal soiling). Pages 267-280 are missing. Theological manuscript by mekhitarist Father Andreas, supreme vardapet of Kütahya. The work deals with the primacy of the Holy See of Rome and relations between the Armenian Church and the Catholic Church. Adopting both a doctrinal and historical approach, it highlights the legitimacy and central role of the Catholic Church in the Christian tradition. The first part of the text develops the theological foundations of papal primacy, as well as avenues for rapprochement between the two Churches. The second part of the manuscript contains a chronological list of popes, from Saint Peter to Gregory XVI (pontificate of 1831), with brief biographical notes for each. This manuscript supports the Armenian Catholic doctrine of Armenian union with the Holy See.
