NAVY. Louis Chevalier de FABRY DE FABRÈGUES. He served in campaigns in the West Indies; he was a Captain in 1757, Lieutenant General of the Naval Forces in 1782 (awarded the Cross of Saint Louis), and Director General of the Toulon Arsenal. (Aups, Var, 1715 – Cartagena, Spain, 1796) - Document signed by Le Chevalier de FABRY, certifying a copy of the letter from Marshal de CASTRIES addressed to him and to MALOUET, dated Versailles, May 2, 1784. 1 folio page: “As it is increasingly evident, Gentlemen, that the fan devised by Sieur WEULERSSE offers significant advantages, it is the King’s intention that one such fan be installed on each of the vessels to be outfitted at the Port of Toulon. Chevalier de FABRY is to see to the implementation of what I am conveying to you regarding the King’s wishes in this matter. He shall also instruct the captains to ensure that it is used as often as possible and to report on the observed effects upon their return from the campaign…”
